With a break in his legal education from the fall of 2003 to early 2005 to serve in Iraq as an interrogator for the United States Army, Scott returned from war to earn his Juris Doctor degree in 2006. While serving in Iraq, Scott was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal as well as Company, Brigade, and Division level Coins issued for meritorious effort and service.
Scott is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court as well as all three North Carolina Federal District Courts. He has filed and/or argued at every North Carolina Appellate Court level. Initially practicing in the area of auto-liability defense, Scott’s practice now focuses almost exclusively on workers’ compensation defense and subrogation recovery. Scott is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys.
Over the past decades, Scott’s practice has trended toward a focus within the construction, commercial motor carrier, and public sector arenas. His passion for defending the commercial motor transportation industry drove Scott to obtain his CDL class A driver’s license; allowing him to serve that industry from a first hand; boots on the ground perspective. Through that work and his affiliations with the commercial motor carrier sector, Scott became a board member of the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA), and actively participates within their legislative committee to address large scale and positive changes for the industry in North Carolina. Scott is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys.
Scott is a frequent lecturer who enjoys speaking to clients on a number of continuing education topics including Attorney and Carrier/Adjuster Ethics, Effective Communications with Medical Providers, the National Flood Insurance Program; and a vast array of updates/topics relating to Workers’ Compensation defense.
A student athlete, a veteran, a lawyer, and a truck driver, Scott is also a father to three children and husband to his wife Stephanie Farwell
